Supporting families who have suffered baby loss

B I B Charitable Trust, is a new charity set up to help support families who have suffered the loss of a baby.
Our aim is to provide families with a Care Hamper that is packed with thoughtful and heartfelt gifts, put together with kindness and compassion, each item is selected with care to help support grieving parents and memorialise their little babies gone too soon.

The death of a child or baby is an extremely sad, overwhelming and devastating experience for the parents and families, it is also a very lonely journey. People don’t often know how to react when there is a baby loss and unless they have been through the experience themselves they may avoid it all together.

We want to help these families not feel so alone and isolated at this time of great loss.
We have put together resources and gifts that I personally found helpful on my own loss journey, it’s the kind of support I wished I’d received when I was faced with the losses of my own beautiful babies.

Our hope is that when a grieving family feels up to it, they can look inside the hamper and find support, kindness and guidance to help them on their journey of grief and loss.

We are very proud to be able to provide these hampers free of charge and value all the support we receive through kind donations.

About

‘B I B’ stands for Babies In Boxes

We know that some people may think this name sounds a bit blunt, a little confronting or strange, but the reality for almost every baby loss family is that our babies return home with us ‘in a box’.

Whether it’s in a coffin, a small white plastic container of ashes or simply a cardboard keepsake with our baby treasures inside, a box is all we have.  It may come with a teddy bear label that summarizes our precious babies life existence into a few simple details:  Name.  Weight.  Date.

If you have held the ashes of your much loved baby in a tiny white box, then you will understand the devastating reality that is a baby in a box.

Our Mission

Our Mission

The death of a baby or child is extremely traumatic, in an instant your world grinds to a holt and everything you thought you knew or had is gone and the world has a veil of sadness over it.

The journey through baby loss is an extremely lonely one, it isn’t spoken about, I realised very quickly that our society is ‘obsessed’ with babies until a baby dies, then they pretend they never existed.

My mission is to help support the families affected by baby loss by providing care packages filled with support information, food stuffs, gifts and memoirs of their little ones.

I want hospitals, midwives, funeral homes, friends or family to contact us after a baby loss so we can donate a care package, in the hope that it will remind them that they are not alone and so these families can have the resources available for them when they are ready and in need of support.

I also want to bring awareness to the lack of mental and emotional support in our communities and encourage people to step up and provide better support and guidance.

How Can I Access A Hamper?

At this stage our packs go out to families based in the southland region, we hope to expand this area in the future. We are notified about families who have lost a baby, after they have given consent to the hospital, midwives and or funeral homes.

A charity coordinator then deliver the pack to the family.

If you are a baby loss family or know a baby loss family that has not received a pack then you can request a pack here (request a pack box below), we may require proof of loss and some personal details about the mother and baby to ensure the packs are specific and personalised.

If you are unsure if you can access a pack please contact us.
